Makeup Submission: Ombre eye done with Sugarpill and Tokidoki shadows :)

hi

Femme Boy: Very nice work, girlie!!!! Nice blending at crease and I love the sharp edge from corner of eye to brow, I feel like it makes eye makeup look very clean and striking. Think Grace Jones, makeup with strong defined lines.

Femme Fetch: MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork

I spoke about the amazing NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils a few post back and my ultimate base for oilier lids when using the pencils is the MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork.  The paint pots work so well with oily skin because of their thick cream formula, much more preferred to creamier lid primers.

NYX Eye Pencil Post

The paint pot in the shade groundwork is a favorite because of it’s versatility. The color is a taup-y beige, neutral tone which works great as a shadow on it’s own or the perfect base. I wear this the most when doing my own eye makeup and it is bullet proof, no creasing, ever!!!! I have heard of people using this paint pot as an under eye concealer for darker complexions and I am not sure if I can endorse that, but feel free to try it out.

All the Paint Pots are great but Groundwork is by far my favorite with Bare Study running a close second.

Femme Fetch: NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Pencils
I am loving the eye pencils from NYX right now. The biggest assest any product can have is versatility and these pencils are super versatile. Great as liner and base color for eyeshadow, after applying a nice creamy lid primer like the one from Urban Decay. Could also be used alone on lids with a decent color payoff.
The most femme-tastic colors are:
Milk
Strawberry Milk
Cucumber
Peacock
Cashmere
There are 37 shades total so the color selection in amazing and truthfully all the colors kinda rock. NYX is one of the best in terms of variety of shades.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Re-launch

I am very much in love with Urban Decay as a complete line. They’ve got great color selection, interesting packaging, and huge versatility. Now they are relaunching their eyeshadows with the ability to create your own six shadow palette. I think this is a genius idea considering the success of the Naked palettes.

Some of my fave colors from the line include Mushroom, Loaded, X, and Snatch.

What are some of your favorite shades from Urban Decay?

Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow
Okay, so I picked these shadows up awhile ago and have worn them a few times in order to give an honest review. I will start off by saying I love them, like seriously love them. They remind me of the MAC Paint Pot’s in consistency, but I almost want to say that the staying power is a bit better with the Maybelline. The big issue with cream eye shadow is the creasing and Maybelline has certainly failed in the past with horrible cream eye shadows before, but this product certainly makes up for that.
Ok, so I have the Bad to the Bronze and Tough as Taupe shades, I am so obsessed with neutrals, sorry. I am definitely going back to get some of the bolder colors. The stuff has amazing color payoff when applied with fingers and more payoff when applied with something like the NARS 7 concealer brush or any of the MAC shader brushes. I am not sure if it last 24 full hours but it certainly last at least 12. I even fell asleep with the stuff on and it was there when I woke up.
So all in all, this product is a must have. Great worn alone or even as a base.

Love the makeup here, use the Nars Trio Eyeshadow in Douce France to get this exact look from NARS Cosmetics.

NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Pandora
I love this duo because of it’s versatility. Pandora is pretty much a matte balck and a matte white, essential for any makeup collection. The white can serve as a highlight and the black works as a contour for the eye, an all over eye shadow, and even a liner.  NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Pandora

Love this video, I am super into her using lipstick and blush to fill in her brows, I have to try that out!!!

Almay Moisturizing Eye Makeup Remover Pads
I usually use the MAC Cleanse Off Oil to remove my makeup, especially bullet proof eyemakeup, but I have recently decided to work in more cost effective products. To be honest, I have been a makeup snob for years and only recently have I decided to loosen up a bit.
So the Almay Moisturizing Eye Makeup Remover Pads looked interesting and they were on sale, so why not. Now I am saying WHY. This stuff is not good at getting off mascara at all, like it sucks, plus the pads don’t have enough oil on them so you end up using like 3 or 4 if you have on some serious mascara and shadow.
Moisturizing? I really couldn’t tell any difference, I found myself scrubbing so hard and long with these slightly abrasive pads that I needed moisturizing after I used them. I really think I prefer buying my own remover and deciding the amount of product I put on a cotton ball and going in that way.
I only recommend this to the ladies who are not wearing heavy eye makeup or those that would like to waste their money, lol.
So NOT FEMME!!!!!
Maybe you had a different experience, tell me about it, what do u think?

Like this look, but I wish I went heavier on the cheeks for the camera. The cheeks had a deep purple as the contour with a bright orange and pink mixed together on the cheek bone. I also wish I would’ve used a hot pink lip instead of red, it looks perfect in person, but the pink would have looked better on camera. Oh well, now I know what will look better next time.  Like this look, but I wish I went heavier on the cheeks for the camera. Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow

So has anyone tried this, I think I will make a point to go pick some of this stuff up, I am intrigued. I am honestly not a big fan of cream shadow unless as a base for a powder shadow, but I wonder if this stuff delivers. What do you think?

Q

tamikasucks asked:

Is it harder for dark skinned people to wear eye shadow because every time I try to wear eyeshadow it just look like a cloudy mess? Could it be the product, the technique, or my skin? Last night I tried with E.L.F's warm palette and I used Urban Decays primer potion.

A

It probably is the technique or the tools, but rarely is it the product and it is NEVER the skin. Any eye shadow color can pop on any skintone, trust me. You are on the right track with using a primer, that helps. Try using a concealer lighter than your skin all over the lid or a MAC paint pot( i like ground work).

Use a NYX Shadow Pencil that is similar to the color of the shadow you want to use as a base to help the color pop. Then focus on packing the color onto the lid in a light patting motion, don’t sweep the eyeshadow on. When you blend remember to blend the edges, not really the whole lid, this helps to keep the color imapact there.

Also I believe in good brushes, you may not have the best brushes for the look you want. The 242, 249, or the 252 brushes from MAC are amazing for packing color onto the lid. I love my NARS small & large dome eye shadow brushes for blending the edges. These things are pricier but if you spend big money on anything it should be brushes, they will last for years and truly change how the makeup goes on. Most of the product is essentially the same, it’s all in the brushes and the technique.

Here is a link to a youtube makeup guru I love who shows you the method I talked about. All her videos are great.

Do this and I guarantee the color will pop. If you are still not convinced I will be doing an eye shadow tutorial soon so I can show you myself.
