Q

smokenightmare asked:

Do you have any tips for someone that wants to start a skin care routine

A

If you have no idea were to start I say look for a solid 3 part system to begin with and add products for your specific needs as you go along.

  • Cleanser-find a cleanser that works for your skin type. Gel and Foam work great for oil, creams are best for dry skin types. Steer away from heavily medicated/ acne cleansers in the beginning. Sometimes the skin breaks out because of misdiagnosing skin type or over cleansing. Simply finding the right cleanser does wonders.
  • Serum/Treatment- Find a serum or target treatment that will focus on a particular skin concern you have. Serums are much more concentrated and can aid in changing skin condition.
  • Moisturizer- Everyone needs a moisturizer, period. Find one that is oil-free, with an SPF of at least 30, no exceptions. The sun is your biggest enemy when it comes to aging and dealing with issues like hyper pigmentation/acne scarring.

Start here and add products like eye creams, exfoliating scrubs, masks, etc once you get your skin focused in on a solid 3 part system.

I love lines like Dermalogica and Kiehl’s for beginners, they take a lot of the guess work out of skincare and the product selection is pretty amazing.

Try this online skin analysis at the Dermalogica website:

You will get product suggestions and some education on your skin too. ;-)

Prada FW 14 Backstage

Femme Boy: Fresh skin and tons of mascara, so femme. ;-) Prada really channeled a modernized “Twiggy” look for their most recent show. A lot less effort, more wearable for daytime, but still wide eyed and youthful. To get a look like this, layer on your mascara with a slightly heavier hand. Go with two separate mascaras to create a thick, slightly clumped look.  Put on the voulminizing mascara first, heavy on the lash line and follow with a mascara designed to lengthen with a more precise wand.

Femme Fetches:

  • Dior Show Blackout
  • Benefit They’re Real
  • Maybelline Big Eyes- comes with two wands and much more affordable
  •  Calvin Klein CK ONE Mascara -comes in 5 shades, works great as accents on tips of lashes for a pop of color

Be sure to go with a black mascara for the full drama, navy and brown tones will work fine for a more subtle look especially with fairer skin tones.

The Fish Tail Braid

Loving this video. Fun look for all the long haired femmes!!!

Femme Fetch: Iman Second to None Stick Foundation
Currently loving my Iman Stick Foundation!!!! Totally believing in the power of more cream based foundations thanks to Bobbi Brown, MAC, and now Iman. This stick is great for all skin types and a number of skin tones. Iman Cosmetics isn’t just for “black” femmes it’s for a myriad of people looking to get better coverage options. The Iman Second to None Stick Foundation dries down to a velvet matte finish, which I love. If Iman Cosmetics can do anything it is definitely coverage and foundation. Will be picking up the their BB Cream soon for sure.

Femme Fetch: Alterna Bamboo Shine Luminous Shine Mist
For having such a little amount of hair I manage to hoard a good amount of hair products and most don’t do much to impress me really.  But I have to say that the Bamboo Shine Mist is my favorite hair product right now. I love it primarily for the light weight feel, non-greasy shine, and the fragrance. The stuff smells so amazing, like I can’t get over it.
The Bamboo Shine product line is Eco- Friendly, which is great. The biggest drawback is the entire line seems a bit overpriced, but the products are solid none the less.

Femme Fetch: Ben Nye Banana Powder and Mojave Contour Wheel

Not sure why I haven’t tried the Ben Nye Banana Powder yet, but excited to finally see what all the fuss is about. I swatched a number of the luxury powders in different shades and the banana powder seemed to work best despite it’s distinct difference from my skintone. I find this powder to be awesome and oh so femme for setting your highlight.

Ben Nye’s Mojave Contour Wheel was a great find for the price of $14 USD alone. Great shades for ethnic skin and I suggest everyone look into a contour wheel that corresponds with your skintone no matter what it is. The shades have great color pay off and blend well.

Look for an updated foundation video with contouring and highlighting within the next week. Super excited, hope you are too.

How to Be a HeartBreaker- Marina and the Diamonds

Currently obsessing over this song, it’s certainly not new, but it has renewed life on my iPhone. I am so wanting to make a music video almost exactly like this!!!

Femme Fetch: Bare Escentuals Flawless Definition Mascara
Thanks to a care package from Planet Beauty. com, I got to try out the Bare Escentuals Flawless Definition Mascara. I honestly would have never tried this mascara otherwise, but I was pleasantly suprised. I am a sucker for packaging and glamourous advertising which Bare Escentuals isn’t necessarily known for. But all that matters at the end of the day is the results and this mascara delivers. This is an ideal mascara for defined and separated lashes. Can be worn for a natural everyday look best, but drama can be achieved with a few extra coats.  Femme Fetch: Bare Escentuals Flawless Definition Mascara

Totally gagging on everything about these photos. Loving the contour and the lashes. I am starting believe a face isn’t truly made up until you throw on the falsies.
